How to Activate and Inactivate Your OptiMonk Campaign?

Emel DalabasmazUpdated September 6, 20263 min read

Use the Active/Inactive toggle in Campaigns to start or pause an OptiMonk campaign. An active campaign still follows its display conditions; the status alone does not prove that every visitor will see it.

This guide follows OptiMonk’s campaign-management documentation, checked September 6, 2026. The verification checklist is editorial guidance, not a claim of testing inside a customer account.

Change the campaign’s status

  1. Open Campaigns in OptiMonk.
  2. Find the intended campaign, checking its name and domain.
  3. Change the Active/Inactive toggle.
  4. Verify the resulting status and test the intended page as a visitor.

OptiMonk documents new campaigns as inactive by default. Review design, targeting and integrations before activation, because eligible visitors can see the campaign once it is active.

Choose the right action

Action Intended use What to check afterward
Inactivate Pause a campaign you may use again Status is inactive and a new eligible visit no longer triggers it
Archive Remove unused campaigns from the working list while retaining data Find it with the Archived status filter
Restore Bring an archived campaign back for review OptiMonk documents restored campaigns as inactive
Duplicate Create a variation while preserving the original Review domain, offer, targeting and integrations on the copy

Archive and restore are available from the campaign row’s three-dot menu. OptiMonk also documents selecting multiple campaigns with checkboxes for bulk actions. Review the selection before applying a bulk change, especially when managing several sites.

Check before activating a copy

A duplicated design may still contain an old offer or destination. Record which campaign the copy should replace, if any, and inspect overlapping targeting before activating both.

Do not assume that a copied campaign’s settings are appropriate for a different store. Verify its domain, links, coupon text and integration destination. Preview desktop and mobile layouts before testing on the intended page.

Verify the change with a small test matrix

Test Expected evidence
Intended page and eligible visitor The active campaign follows the selected trigger
Excluded page or visitor The campaign behaves according to its exclusions
New visit after inactivation The paused campaign does not trigger
Other campaign on the same page You can identify which campaign actually appeared
Restored campaign It remains inactive until deliberately activated
Signup, if the campaign collects leads The test record reaches the intended destination

Record the URL, device, visitor history and campaign name. A display that was already open before a status change is a different test from a fresh visit; the cited guide does not specify how existing open displays update.

If an active campaign does not appear

Check installation, the selected domain, audience rules and trigger configuration separately. Preserve the original settings while investigating one cause at a time. Do not describe a particular cause as the most common without evidence from your account.

Also inspect the campaign-list filters if a campaign seems to have disappeared. OptiMonk documents status, domain, device and date filters, with filters persisting during the session. Clear them before assuming the campaign was deleted.

For an experiment after setup, see OptiMonk variant testing. Browse the OptiMonk help directory for related tasks.

Questions before you decide

Frequently asked questions

Does restoring an archived OptiMonk campaign immediately activate it?

No. OptiMonk documents restored campaigns as inactive by default. Review the restored campaign’s settings and deliberately activate it when it is ready to display.
