How to Integrate OptinMonster with Constant Contact

Emel DalabasmazUpdated September 6, 20262 min read

The OptinMonster documentation lists Constant Contact on all subscription plans. Use the official connection guide to compare these steps with your account.

Connect and select a list

  1. Open Integrations in the campaign builder and select Constant Contact.
  2. Choose Register Constant Contact, log in through the new window and authorize access.
  3. Return to the builder, name the connection and connect it.
  4. Choose the required destination under Email Provider Lists, then save.

Use a connection name that identifies the account clearly. For agency work, confirm the selected account and list before sending a test; a successful connection alone does not prove you chose the intended destination.

Prepare the field mapping

Create custom fields in Constant Contact before mapping them. The vendor reserves custom_field_12 and custom_field_13 for wheel coupon codes and labels. See its field-naming requirements before configuring additional fields.

Build a small mapping worksheet before testing:

Campaign value Destination to record Acceptance check
Email Intended contact email field Matches the submitted address
Additional input Explicit destination field Correct value and format arrive
Coupon, if used Reserved coupon destination Stored code matches the visitor’s offer

The worksheet is an editorial recommendation, not a report of a tested account. Avoid reusing coupon destinations for unrelated information.

Test delivery and follow-up separately

The vendor recommends a new email address because existing contacts can behave differently. Submit a controlled test and inspect the receiving contact, list and mapped values. Test an existing contact separately without assuming duplicate submissions will be rejected.

If a contact arrives but no email follows, review Constant Contact’s automation configuration. Record which contact entered which list and whether it qualified for the intended follow-up. This gives the person investigating the issue a specific event to trace.

Check the live form on mobile as well: field errors should be understandable, submission should complete and the success message should accurately describe what happens next. A visually correct success state is only one part of the acceptance check.

Keep backup storage in perspective

OptinMonster recommends Monster Leads as backup storage. Verify its saved record separately; do not treat a second connection as a guarantee against every delivery failure. Decide who reviews failed deliveries and how a missed follow-up will be investigated before launch.

Questions before you decide

Frequently asked questions

Can I map custom fields before creating them in Constant Contact?

No. OptinMonster instructs you to create the custom fields in Constant Contact first. Its integration also reserves custom_field_12 and custom_field_13 for wheel coupon data, so use other supported destinations for unrelated values.
