How to Create an Embedded Form Display on Privy

Emel DalabasmazUpdated September 6, 20263 min read

A Privy embedded form sits inside your page layout, such as a footer or newsletter page. Privy’s current guide routes this format through Classic Designer. Create and publish the display, then place its embed code where the form should appear.

These steps follow Privy’s embedded-form documentation, checked September 6, 2026. The verification checklist below is editorial guidance, not a claim of hands-on testing in a customer account.

Create the form in Classic Designer

  1. Open Displays → Create new display.
  2. On the templates page, choose Get started in the lower-left corner to enter the Classic builder.
  3. Name the display, choose email, phone or both, and select Create display.
  4. In Create, configure form fields, opt-in settings and signup validation rules.
  5. Select Add a display → Embedded Form, choose a template, then select Choose selected.
  6. Edit the text, field presentation and background, then Save & Close.

Keep the invitation specific to what subscribers receive. A short newsletter form and a coupon form make different promises; the heading, submit button and confirmation should agree about what happens next.

Configure confirmation and follow-up

Under Thank You Page Design, write a clear signup confirmation. If the offer includes a coupon, attach the intended coupon in the Coupon section and include {{ signup.coupon_code }} in the thank-you design, as documented for this Classic workflow.

In Follow-Up, review each action you need:

Action Configuration to check Evidence to collect in a test
After Signup Email Message, sender and publication status The intended message arrives at your test address
External destination A sync rule for the linked account The test contact and required fields arrive in that destination
Signup notification Whether notifications are enabled The intended recipient receives the test notification
SMS follow-up, if used Account eligibility and the required opt-in flow The test contact completes the applicable confirmation steps

The source refers to a Growth Plan for SMS. Verify your account’s current entitlement before promising SMS delivery; that reference alone does not establish eligibility for every account or billing arrangement.

Publish and place the code

Publish the display from Follow-Up, then return to Create → Get embed code. Copy the code supplied by Privy and insert it into the HTML location where you want the form.

For Shopify, Privy documents Online Store → Themes → Customize, then adding a Custom Liquid element in the relevant section and pasting the code. Save and inspect the resulting placement. Your theme determines the available sections and layout; do not assume that moving a block has the same visual effect in every theme.

Use a theme preview or controlled page first. Record which page or shared section contains the embed so another editor can locate it later. Adding code to a shared footer can affect more pages than a single-page content block.

Verify placement and submission separately

Test Expected outcome Next check if it fails
Load the intended page as a visitor The form appears in the chosen location Publication, embed placement and site installation
Open desktop and phone layouts Labels, inputs and submit button fit without overlap Container width, theme styles and form design
Navigate with the keyboard Inputs and submission controls are reachable Focus behavior and field labels
Submit invalid or restricted information A readable validation message explains the issue Validation rules and error presentation
Submit a new test contact Confirmation matches the offer Thank-you design and signup result
Check contact and follow-up Record, mapped fields and intended message are verifiable Trace collection, sync and delivery individually

Do not stop testing when the form becomes visible. A successful render does not prove contact creation, coupon presentation or email delivery. Keep the same test address through each checkpoint so failures can be isolated.

Understand the targeting limit

Privy documents availability duration as the embedded form’s audience-targeting option, under Target → How Long to Show It. Placement determines where the form is rendered. Do not plan country or cart-based targeting for this format from the general popup targeting guide alone.

For another placement approach, see Privy’s clickable-tab setup. Review Privy integrations when a signup needs to reach another service.

Questions before you decide

Frequently asked questions

Does publishing the Privy display place the embedded form on my website?

No. After publishing, Privy instructs you to retrieve the embed code from the Create step and paste it into your page HTML. Verify both publication and code placement when the form is missing.
