How to evaluate the Alia Popups free trial
Set a decision rule before starting a trial: which result would justify the recurring subscription? This checklist combines our evaluation advice with Alia’s trial documentation, checked 5 September 2026. It is not a report of a hands-on test.
Confirm your trial and billing terms
Alia documents 14 days for Basic and 30 days for Fully Managed. The selected paid plan begins after the trial, and the account’s Billing page shows the remaining time. The guide says trial visitors do not consume the subsequent paid visitor allowance. Confirm the amount in your own billing approval screen because the website and Shopify listing differ.
Establish a baseline
Record site visitors, completed signups, confirmed subscribers and order conversion over a representative period. Keep a note of traffic source, offer and seasonality. Comparing a promotion week with an ordinary week will not isolate the popup’s contribution.
Test a complete customer journey
Check mobile and desktop, a new subscriber and a returning visitor. Verify the destination contact, consent state, discount code and welcome sequence. Use our integration guides to identify the connection path for your platform.
Keep a trial worksheet
Use one row per campaign and keep the definitions unchanged throughout the trial. This is a suggested evaluation worksheet, not a record of client results.
| Record | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Selected plan, approved amount and trial end date | Connect the evaluation deadline to the actual recurring commitment |
| Offer, audience, devices and traffic sources | Identify changes that could explain a difference in signup results |
| Eligible visitors and completed submissions | Separate audience reach from form completion |
| Confirmed new subscribers in the destination | Avoid treating duplicate or unconfirmed contacts as new usable subscribers |
| Discount redemptions and orders | Check whether captured contacts progress beyond the form |
| Campaign setup and maintenance time | Include the operating work in the decision |
For example, 40 submissions from 2,000 eligible visitors is a 2% submission rate. If only 30 are confirmed new subscribers, the confirmed-subscriber rate for that same audience is 1.5%. These illustrative numbers show why a popup dashboard total and a destination-list total can answer different questions. Define the denominator before comparing results.
Choose the experiment that answers your question
Comparing two offers asks which popup works better. Comparing a popup with no popup asks a different question: what changes when the campaign is present? A before-and-after traffic report alone does not isolate that effect.
Alia’s popup versus no-popup guide, checked 6 September 2026, documents duplicating a campaign as a draft, removing every trigger—including Smart Trigger—and selecting that triggerless version alongside the original in an A/B test. Verify the control configuration before starting; we have not run this procedure in a store account.
The guide recommends store conversion and bounce rate because the no-popup variant cannot collect popup signups. Do not use popup signup rate to declare that the visible variant wins by default. Record other active signup campaigns and promotions so their presence is visible when interpreting the result.
Choose the metric and decision rule before examining outcomes. The guide cautions that early results can be noisy. A trial deadline does not establish sufficient evidence: if the result remains uncertain, separate the billing decision from any claim of a conversion improvement.
Diagnose a failed check before changing the offer
| Observation | Next check |
|---|---|
| The campaign does not appear | Review the intended device, audience, trigger and frequency settings; record the conditions used to reproduce it |
| Submission succeeds but the contact is missing | Confirm the connected account and destination, then inspect the test contact there |
| Contact exists but no welcome message arrives | Check consent, confirmation and the destination platform's flow eligibility |
| Discount is shown but cannot be redeemed | Verify the offer's product, minimum-spend and expiration conditions |
| Results change after a traffic spike | Compare traffic sources and promotion dates before attributing the difference to the campaign |
Change one suspected cause at a time and repeat the same journey. A higher submission rate does not compensate for a broken welcome flow or unusable discount.
Make the keep-or-cancel decision
Compare qualified subscriber growth and business results with the confirmed ongoing cost. Include time spent maintaining the campaigns. Resolve billing questions before the trial ends; do not assume that leaving a popup unpublished stops subscription billing.
Use three possible outcomes: keep the selected plan when the workflow and economics meet your decision rule; fix a specific failure and retest when evidence points to an implementation problem; or decline the subscription when the requirements are not met. If traffic is too low to judge business impact, record that uncertainty instead of declaring a conversion lift. A functioning setup and a demonstrated incremental lift are different findings.
Review Alia pricing and alternatives before committing.
Questions before you decide
Frequently asked questions
How long is the Alia trial for each plan?
Alia documents 14 days for Basic and 30 days for Fully Managed. Check the Billing page for your account’s remaining trial time and confirm the selected plan before making the subscription decision.
Do trial visitors reduce the next paid visitor allowance?
The trial guide says visitors during the trial do not count toward the subsequent paid allowance. Visitor tracking starts fresh when the trial ends; confirm your selected paid tier separately.
Does Alia start billing automatically after the trial?
Yes. The guide says the selected plan becomes paid automatically after the trial, with billing handled through Shopify. Record the end date and resolve cancellation questions before it arrives; do not assume an unpublished campaign cancels billing.
