Shortlist Popupsmart for an ongoing free option or compare its Advanced testing tier; evaluate Alia for its documented Shopify testing workflow and managed-service choices.
This is a source-based comparison, not a hands-on performance benchmark. The pricing example below uses Popupsmart’s pricing page and Alia’s Shopify listing checked on 6 September 2026. Alia’s no-popup test documentation was also rechecked that day. Other feature details retain the dates shown in their linked source records.
A free starting point or a managed testing workflow?
Popupsmart offers a free starting point and paid A/B testing. Alia’s documented testing and managed-service options introduce a different question: which work will your team perform, and which work does the chosen offer include? We have not measured a setup-speed difference between the products.
Run the same signup journey through both products if the choice is close. A successful editor preview is not sufficient: verify the contact destination, welcome sequence, mobile interaction and how existing subscribers are handled.
What should you compare on price?
Alia’s Shopify listing starts at $100/month for 20,000 visitors, but its website shows a different Basic offer. The card above identifies the listing basis and the discrepancy. Confirm the actual charge before deciding which product is cheaper.
Popupsmart has its own billing caveats in our pricing breakdown, with the vendor source linked for verification. The displayed rate is the researched entry offer, not a quote for your store.
Popupsmart’s profile uses site pageviews and Alia uses visitors. Also check Popupsmart’s plan-specific testing availability rather than assuming the lowest displayed price includes every experiment you want to run.
A worked budget for a store that needs A/B testing
Suppose a Shopify store forecasts 20,000 visitors and 60,000 pageviews in a month and needs to compare campaign variants. These are illustrative traffic inputs, not a claim that every visitor views three pages.
| Budget input | Popupsmart | Alia |
|---|---|---|
| Relevant offer | Advanced, with A/B testing | Shopify listing’s 20,000-visitor tier |
| Published monthly charge | $69 | $100 |
| Published traffic allowance | 100,000 pageviews | 20,000 visitors |
| Room above the example forecast | 40,000 pageviews | No visitor headroom |
Sources: Popupsmart pricing and Alia on Shopify, checked 6 September 2026. Alia’s listing says all features are included; this does not establish that its managed-service offer is included.
Under these assumptions, the listed subscription difference is $31 per month. That is not the total operating-cost difference: add any sending-platform charges, campaign work and agreed services. If the store expects 25,000 visitors instead, the example no longer fits Alia’s listed 20,000-visitor tier. Recheck the next tier and account terms; do not assume the same price continues.
The useful choice is whether the required workflow and actual traffic fit the selected offer. Avoid using a cheaper plan that omits the testing requirement or treating a visitor allowance as a pageview allowance.
How would we run a fair evaluation?
Use the same offer, audience and destination workflow. Record the traffic period and any other store changes. Verify that a fresh test signup reaches the intended list and receives the intended follow-up before using submission counts to judge either product.
Compare confirmed new subscribers and store outcomes against the total ongoing cost. Include discounts and staff time. A higher signup rate is not automatically a profitable improvement, and vendor case studies do not establish the result your store will achieve.
Which should you shortlist?
| Your requirement | Starting shortlist | What could change the choice |
|---|---|---|
| An ongoing free campaign | Popupsmart Free | Its traffic or feature limits do not meet the brief |
| Paid A/B testing with a defined budget | Popupsmart Advanced and the confirmed Alia offer | Required controls, traffic capacity or team workload differ |
| Vendor assistance with recurring Shopify experiments | Alia’s managed offer | The written service scope does not cover the work you need |
| Measuring popup impact against no popup | Alia’s documented control workflow | Another product demonstrates an equivalent setup on the selected plan |
| A non-Shopify site | Verify the installation path first | Alia’s public billing references alone do not establish supported installation |
If neither product has a confirmed plan and installation path that fits, expand the shortlist through Alia alternatives or Popupsmart alternatives. Treat these as source-based starting points and verify the mandatory checks below.
Sources and limits
The Alia feature discussion uses its Smart Testing documentation, trial guide and integration directory. The Popupsmart side uses our linked profile and its cited vendor materials. Our judgments describe fit; they do not assert an independently measured winner or invent a shared review score.
A fair comparison starts with the same brief
Use a shared acceptance sheet before choosing either product. The comparison below is a proposed evaluation framework, not a record of a controlled client test.
| Requirement | What to verify for each product | Why it changes the decision |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | A documented install path for the actual site | A feature is irrelevant if the site cannot use it |
| Capture | The required fields, offer and success state | A good-looking preview does not prove delivery |
| Destination | Correct list membership and follow-up | Contacts in the wrong workflow do not meet the brief |
| Testing | Required controls on the selected plan | Entry prices can omit the reason for buying |
| Traffic | Forecast using that product’s billing unit | Pageviews and visitors measure different things |
| Operations | Responsibility for review and ongoing changes | Staff time is part of the cost |
Decide which checks are mandatory and which are optional. If one product fails a mandatory requirement, do not compensate by counting unrelated features. If both pass, compare the confirmed cost and maintenance effort under the same operating assumptions.
Test popup impact before comparing popup designs
A test of two popup designs cannot tell you whether either is better than showing no popup. Alia documents a popup-versus-no-popup control: duplicate a campaign as a draft, remove every trigger including Smart Trigger, and use that triggerless version as the second A/B variant. This is a documented workflow, not a test we ran on a Flatart client.
The control cannot collect popup signups, so signup rate alone is not a fair success criterion. The guide identifies store conversion and bounce rate as relevant outcomes. Our recommendation is to define the primary store outcome and the evaluation period before starting, and avoid declaring a winner from a short, noisy sample. Check that other active forms do not undermine the intended control.
Popupsmart lists A/B testing on Advanced and above, but that feature label alone does not confirm an equivalent no-popup control workflow. Verify how your chosen plan allocates traffic and suppresses the control before treating these setups as interchangeable. This distinction is more useful than assuming that two products with an A/B testing checkbox measure the same thing.
Questions before you decide
Frequently asked questions
Can I compare the visitor and pageview allowances directly?
No. A visitor may load multiple pages, so the same numeric allowance can represent different amounts of traffic. Estimate usage according to each product’s billing unit before comparing the required tier. Keep any illustrative conversion between units clearly labeled as an assumption.
Which is easier to evaluate without an ongoing subscription?
Popupsmart publishes an ongoing free plan with limits; Alia documents a time-limited trial. That distinguishes the commercial evaluation path, not which product performs better. Check whether the free or trial access includes the features needed for your actual comparison.
Does this comparison prove one product converts better?
No. It compares documented capabilities, fit and billing considerations. It does not present a controlled experiment of the two products on the same store. Your offer, audience and downstream workflow need to be held in context when interpreting any trial result.
What is the first practical check before choosing either tool?
Verify your required platform and marketing destination, then test a complete signup. After that, compare the specific campaign and testing features you need and the plan that includes them. This sequence avoids choosing on a headline price that does not cover the job.
