Which alternative matches the job?

Job First pick Why it beats Popupsmart for that job When to stay on Popupsmart
Free plan + Shopify Popupsmart This is the case it wins
Gamification + personalisation OptiMonk On-site personalisation around the games You only need the wheel
Split tests and reporting OptinMonster Testing is the product You will not run tests
Capture + email + SMS Privy One bill, contact metering You already have Klaviyo
Cheapest honest free plan Poptin Visitor meter, testing on free in our last write-up You are already on Shopify with Popupsmart
Design-led ecommerce Sleeknote Editor is the point You need a free plan
Targeting depth Wisepops Denser rules; demo required You want a public price
A bar, not a modal Hello Bar Built as a notification bar You want templates and games
Landing pages + popups Mailmunch Both in one cheap editor You only need the popup
Share buttons + heatmaps Sumo A toolkit You want a specialist
Cheap paid start Adoric Lower entry in our 2023 Adoric figures You need Shopify-native

Should you switch from Popupsmart to OptiMonk?

OptiMonk is the closest product: pageview metering, gamification, Shopify, a free plan. Our OptiMonk pricing page last recorded Essential at $39/month (4 January 2023). Popupsmart Basic is $32.50/month billed annually today. That gap is not a reason to switch.

Switch if you want personalisation (product recommendations, on-site experiments) as a system, not a popup with a wheel on it. Stay if you want the cheaper published rate, the Shopify embed app, or a free plan that does not ask you to learn OptiMonk's campaign model.

Should you switch to OptinMonster?

OptinMonster is the testing tool. No free plan; 14-day money-back. Our pricing page last recorded Basic at $9/month billed annually (5 January 2023). That headline is not comparable to Popupsmart's $32.50: OptinMonster sells annual-only at the cheap end, and the feature set that competes with Advanced lives further up.

Switch if you will run experiments every week and want the reporting to match. Stay if you wanted a free plan or a Shopify one-click. OptinMonster's editor is also the one reviewers describe as fighting themes.

Should you switch to Privy?

Privy is not a popup specialist. It is popups plus email plus SMS, priced on contacts, aimed at Shopify. Our last Starter figure is $15/month (9 January 2023).

Switch if you do not already pay for Klaviyo or Omnisend and you want the follow-up in the same product. Stay if you already have an ESP: Popupsmart will dump leads into Klaviyo and you keep the sender you have. Privy gets more expensive as the list grows; Popupsmart gets more expensive as the site gets traffic. Pick the meter that matches the thing that will grow.

Should you switch to Poptin?

Poptin is the other no-code free plan. It meters on visitors, not pageviews. Our profile does not list a starting paid price.

Switch if you want A/B testing without paying Advanced money (our last Poptin write-up put testing on the free plan). Stay if Shopify-native install and the 4.8 rating on 50 Shopify reviews matter more than a visitor meter. They do the same job. The install path is the difference.

Should you switch to Sleeknote?

Sleeknote is the design-led ecommerce popup. No free plan; every tier starts as a trial. Visitor metering. Our profile does not publish a starting paid figure.

Switch if the popup has to look like the rest of the brand and you will pay for that. Stay if you need a free plan or you live on templates. Sleeknote's editor is the reason to buy it; Popupsmart's templates are the reason to stay.

Should you switch to Wisepops?

Wisepops no longer publishes prices. wisepops.com/pricing books a demo. Our last public figure was $49/month for 100K pageviews.

Switch if you will use every targeting rule and you will sit on a sales call. Stay if you want a number on a page before you talk to anyone. Wisepops is the deeper product. Popupsmart is the one you can buy at 11pm.

What about Hello Bar, Mailmunch, Sumo, and Adoric?

Hello Bar if the job is a top-of-page announcement, not a modal. Growth was $24/month billed annually in our 12 January 2023 notes. Popupsmart vs Hello Bar.

Mailmunch if you also need landing pages and you are paying for list growth, not CRO. Premium was $13.99/month billed annually (16 January 2023). Popupsmart vs Mailmunch.

Sumo if you want share buttons, heatmaps, and opt-ins behind one script. Pro was $39/month (13 January 2023). Free keeps Sumo branding on campaigns. Popupsmart vs Sumo.

Adoric if the budget is the constraint and you want behaviour and cookie segments. Startup was $9/month (13 January 2023). Reviewers in our last pass reported bugs. Popupsmart vs Adoric.

When is Popupsmart still the right tool?

When the brief is: get a popup on a Shopify store this afternoon, keep a free plan in your back pocket, and maybe run a wheel. That is a real brief. It is not every brief.

Prices, overage, and the Shopify Starter discrepancy: Popupsmart pricing. The longer verdict: Popupsmart review.
