Who each one is for

Start with your use case, then weigh the strengths and limitations that matter to your site.

Consider Popupsmart for

Shopify stores and small sites that want a working popup the same day, with a real free plan and gamification included.

  • Free plan is usable: 5K pageviews, one live popup, no card required
  • Shopify app rates 4.8/5 from 50 reviews with a one-click install
  • Spin-to-win and lottery-ball gamification ship on every plan
  • Unlimited live popups from the first paid plan

Watch for these limitations

  • A/B testing starts only on Advanced ($57.50/mo billed annually)
  • Free plan has no analytics, one website, and a 5K pageview cap
  • Pageview overage is $10 per extra 10K when auto-extend is on
  • Reviewers still report domain verification taking more than one try

Consider Poptin for

Teams that want visitor-metered popups and forms, or want to test capture, audience management and email in one product.

  • Public free popup route lists 1,000 monthly visitors and one domain
  • Vendor material documents popups, forms, teasers, targeting and A/B testing
  • Current help guides document field-level setup for several integrations
  • Combined offering adds contact management, email campaigns and automations

Watch for these limitations

  • Popup-only and combined email routes use different limits and must be budgeted separately
  • A listed integration does not establish every field, update action or failure path
  • Visitor, contact and email allowances can create more than one upgrade trigger
  • Current G2 feedback was unavailable, so published marketplace ratings remain separate context

Jump to a topic

Popupsmart and Poptin both offer free entry points, but their traffic allowances measure different things. Popupsmart Basic costs $390 annually for 50,000 monthly pageviews and three websites. Poptin Basic costs $25 monthly or $240 annually for 10,000 monthly visitors and one domain. The lower annual price does not establish which allowance will last longer on your website.

Sources: Popupsmart pricing and Poptin pricing, checked 5 September 2026. Annual prices are commitments, not month-to-month charges. Popupsmart’s free live-campaign entitlement needs confirmation because its pricing and homepage messaging differ.

Which traffic allowance fits your website?

Suppose your forecast is 8,000 monthly visitors generating 40,000 pageviews on one website. Both Basic allowances fit those figures. At 12,000 visitors and 36,000 pageviews, the forecast exceeds Poptin Basic’s visitor allowance while remaining within Popupsmart Basic’s pageview allowance. At 9,000 visitors and 54,000 pageviews, the reverse applies.

These are worked budgeting examples, not measured product results. Reconcile your analytics definitions with each vendor’s billing meter before buying; repeated visits, browser identification and script coverage can affect the count. Do not compare 10,000 visitors with 50,000 pageviews as if they were the same unit.

What changes when you manage several websites?

Popupsmart Basic includes three websites, whereas Poptin Basic includes one domain. Poptin Pro lists four domains and a printed annual total of $564. For a three-site brief, comparing only the two Basic prices misses the domain requirement. Traffic capacity and campaign features still need a separate check.

For client work, also verify who can access each account and whether reporting and subscriber data stay separated. Domain capacity alone does not establish an agency permission model. See Poptin pricing for the unresolved difference between its management wording and subaccount FAQ.

Do you need popup capture or email sending too?

Poptin now presents a separate Emails & Poptins offering. Its combined Free card lists 250 active contacts, 500 emails, 1,000 monthly popup visitors and one domain. Those are independent limits. The popup-only Basic price is not a quote for a complete email marketing replacement.

If you already use an email platform, start with the capture workflow: submit a test address, verify its destination list and custom properties, then check consent and the follow-up message. If you intend to send inside Poptin, forecast active contacts and sends as well as website visitors. Its current-cycle active-contact count includes contacts that were subscribed or unconfirmed earlier in that cycle, even if later unsubscribed.

How should you choose?

Shortlist Poptin when its visitor allowance and popup-only price fit a single-domain brief. Shortlist Popupsmart when the pageview allowance and three-site Basic entitlement fit your requirements. If A/B testing is essential, budget for Popupsmart Advanced rather than Basic and verify the matching Poptin workflow before comparing totals.

A useful trial should prove the complete path from display to subscriber destination on desktop and mobile. Record targeting, dismissal behavior, field mapping and the billing meter. These checks support a decision; an app rating or a platform name alone does not demonstrate a better fit.

Questions before you decide

Frequently asked questions

Is Poptin cheaper than Popupsmart?

Poptin Basic is $240 annually versus Popupsmart Basic at $390 annually. That comparison covers different allowances: 10,000 visitors and one domain versus 50,000 pageviews and three websites. For three domains, Poptin Pro’s printed annual total is $564. Compare the tier that meets the whole brief.

Can I compare Poptin visitors directly with Popupsmart pageviews?

No. A visitor can generate multiple pageviews. Forecast both metrics and reconcile them with each vendor’s billing definition. For example, 12,000 visitors and 36,000 pageviews would exceed Poptin Basic’s visitor allowance while fitting Popupsmart Basic’s pageview allowance; this is a budgeting example, not a product benchmark.

Does Poptin Basic pricing cover the combined email offering?

The quoted $25 monthly or $240 annual Basic price is for the popup-only offering. Emails & Poptins has a separate plan selector and separate contact and sending limits. Its combined Free card lists 250 active contacts and 500 emails alongside 1,000 popup visitors; do not treat popup capacity as email capacity.

Which Popupsmart plan should I budget for A/B testing?

Popupsmart lists A/B testing from Advanced, whose checked annual total is $690. Basic’s $390 annual price is therefore not a testing quote. When comparing Poptin, verify the experiment controls, traffic and domain allowance needed for the same campaign rather than choosing solely by the starting price.
