OptiMonk Essential starts at $29 monthly or $228 annually. Poptin popup-only Basic is $25 monthly or $240 annually. Poptin has the lower month-to-month entry price, while OptiMonk has the lower checked annual total. Neither is automatically cheaper for your website because their allowances count different things.

How do the traffic meters change the budget?
Consider a forecast of 8,000 visitors generating 32,000 monthly pageviews. Those figures exceed OptiMonk Essential’s starting 20,000-pageview allowance but fit Poptin Basic’s 10,000-visitor allowance. A forecast of 12,000 visitors and 18,000 pageviews produces the opposite result. These are budgeting examples, not results from a site we measured.
Reconcile your analytics definitions with each billing counter. OptiMonk explicitly counts page loads even when no campaign appears, so showing an offer to a smaller segment does not reduce the bill to that segment’s popup impressions. For Poptin, validate how the account identifies visitors before translating your analytics forecast into a plan.
What should the free evaluation establish?
Both products provide a free traffic allowance, but neither allowance establishes how much time a busy site can spend evaluating it. OptiMonk Free retains vendor branding and includes one domain. Poptin Free includes 1,000 visitors on one domain. Choose a representative campaign and monitor the counter during the evaluation.
Test the intended trigger, mobile dismissal, audience exclusions and lead destination. If split testing is required, verify allocation and reporting in the actual account. A feature label alone does not prove that an experiment is configured correctly or that a low-traffic trial will produce a reliable winner.
How should you plan for a promotion?
OptiMonk’s FAQ describes notices at 80% and 100% of the allowance, with campaigns stopping at the limit until the first-of-month reset or an upgrade. Record the next traffic tier and assign someone to monitor usage before a promotion.
Do not assume Poptin has the same quota behavior. Confirm the selected account’s over-limit terms and domain capacity. A visitor-based allowance can fit a browsing-heavy site well, but that does not prove its campaign continuity policy or the cost of a higher tier.
Does Poptin replace the email platform too?
Only evaluate that as a separate requirement. Poptin presents a combined Emails & Poptins offering alongside popup-only plans. Its combined Free card lists 250 active contacts, 500 emails, 1,000 popup visitors and one domain. The $25 popup-only Basic price is not a quote for replacing your sender.
If you keep your existing email platform, compare capture subscriptions plus that continuing cost. If you intend to send from Poptin, forecast active contacts and sends as well as visitors. Its billing FAQ counts contacts that were subscribed or unconfirmed at any point in the cycle, even if they later unsubscribe.
Which should you shortlist?
Shortlist OptiMonk when its pageview tier and campaign workflow fit the project, including the quota policy during promotions. Shortlist Poptin when its visitor allowance fits your traffic pattern and the selected popup or combined-email offer meets your requirements. Test the same audience, fields and destination in each product rather than treating ecommerce positioning or an old review score as a product winner.

Questions before you decide
Frequently asked questions
Is Poptin always cheaper than OptiMonk?
No. Poptin Basic is $25 monthly versus OptiMonk Essential at $29 monthly, but their checked annual totals are $240 and $228 respectively. Their starting allowances also differ: 10,000 visitors versus 20,000 pageviews. Compare the tier that fits your traffic and required features.
Does a smaller OptiMonk audience reduce billable pageviews?
No. OptiMonk counts page loads whether or not a campaign displays. Restricting an offer to a segment does not turn total pageviews into popup impressions. Poptin uses a visitor allowance, so forecast and reconcile both units separately.
What happens if OptiMonk reaches its limit during a sale?
The vendor FAQ says campaigns stop at the limit after usage notices at 80% and 100%. You can wait for the first-of-month reset or upgrade with a prorated charge. Plan the required traffic tier before the promotion; do not assume Poptin has identical over-limit terms.
Does Poptin popup-only pricing cover an email-platform replacement?
No. Emails & Poptins is a separate offering with contact and sending allowances. The combined Free card lists 250 active contacts and 500 emails alongside 1,000 popup visitors. Obtain the appropriate combined-plan quote before comparing it with an OptiMonk subscription plus your current email platform.
