Who each one is for

Start with your use case, then weigh the strengths and limitations that matter to your site.

Consider OptiMonk for

Ecommerce teams evaluating gamified campaigns and capture into an existing marketing platform, with a site-pageview allowance that fits their forecast.

  • Vendor documentation describes Lucky Wheel, Pick a Gift and Scratchcard campaigns
  • Free entry point with 10,000 pageviews and one domain for an initial evaluation
  • Campaign priority and frequency controls for overlapping offers
  • Klaviyo setup guide documents list selection, field mapping and coupon properties

Watch for these limitations

  • Whole-site pageviews determine the allowance even when campaigns target a smaller audience
  • Free campaigns retain OptiMonk branding; confirm required feature access in the selected plan
  • Campaign display and downstream contact delivery require separate acceptance checks
  • Larger pageview steps need their own price check; entry rates do not cover every allowance

Consider Privy for

Ecommerce stores that want onsite capture and email or SMS follow-up in one platform and can forecast list, traffic and message growth.

  • Displays, email campaigns, SMS and automated Flows share one platform
  • A separate Displays route lets stores keep an external sending platform
  • Paid email lists unlimited sends while SMS remains separately measurable
  • Current documentation covers trial limits, auto-scaling and credit expiry

Watch for these limitations

  • No permanent free plan in the current post-8-July-2025 catalog
  • A combined implementation can depend on pageviews, mailable contacts and SMS credits
  • Contact auto-scaling can change the tier without a notification
  • Uninstalling the app or closing the connected store does not cancel billing

OptiMonk Essential starts at $29 monthly or $228 annually. Privy lists Pop-ups & Displays-only from $24 monthly and Email from $30 monthly. Having an existing email platform does not automatically eliminate Privy: its display-only offer is a separate option to evaluate alongside OptiMonk.

What does capture cost if you keep your sender?

At the starting rates, twelve monthly Privy Displays payments total $288. OptiMonk Essential is $348 across twelve monthly payments or $228 with annual billing. The annual offer therefore changes the entry-price ordering, but it also changes the commitment. Select the required traffic tier before treating either total as your budget.

Add the email platform you will continue paying for. Test the actual destination list, fields, consent state and welcome message. A low capture price is not enough if the required data cannot reach the right workflow. Neither a Shopify installation nor a connector logo proves that mapping is complete.

What changes if Privy becomes your email sender?

Use Privy’s email contact tier and SMS credit requirement instead of the display-only price. Its starting email offer includes unlimited email sends and 250 SMS credits. Unlimited email does not make SMS unlimited, and a starting contact-based price cannot quote every list size.

Compare the configured offer with OptiMonk plus your current sender. Include any overlap during migration and identify which automations need rebuilding. Check suppressed contacts and existing subscribers separately from new signups so that moving data does not restart messages to people who opted out.

How should a busy promotion be planned?

OptiMonk counts site page loads even when a campaign does not appear. Restricting an offer to a narrow segment therefore does not reduce billable traffic to popup impressions. Its FAQ describes notices at 80% and 100%, followed by campaigns stopping at the allowance until the first-of-month reset or an upgrade.

Forecast pageviews before the promotion and assign someone to monitor the counter. Obtain Privy’s selected-tier quota terms separately rather than assuming the same behavior. If the campaign also sends email or SMS, forecast those contact and credit requirements independently of website traffic.

How do you avoid paying for an unused Privy plan?

Privy’s plan-management guide, checked 5 September 2026, says uninstalling the app or closing the store does not cancel subscriptions. Manage each active plan in My Plan & Billing. Cancellation removes associated paid features immediately, so verify that the replacement workflow is ready before changing the subscription.

Which should you evaluate first?

Evaluate OptiMonk and Privy Displays against the same capture brief if your current email platform already meets your needs. Evaluate Privy Email as a broader migration when replacing that platform is an explicit requirement. Record the selected allowance, recurring total, commitment and owner of each setup task.

These are buying criteria and validation steps, not a claim that we completed a client migration or measured a conversion lift. A useful trial proves the intended workflow; old app ratings do not establish which setup is right for your store.

Questions before you decide

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep my email platform while evaluating Privy Displays?

Privy lists a separate display-only offer from $24 monthly, so email replacement is not the only buying path. Compare it with OptiMonk for capture and verify the exact list, fields and consent handling required by your existing sender.

Which entry capture offer costs less over twelve months?

OptiMonk Essential is $228 with annual billing or $348 across twelve monthly payments. Twelve starting Privy Displays payments total $288. Those are entry-price calculations with different commitment terms; select the required traffic tier before treating them as comparable quotes.

Does Privy’s unlimited email include unlimited SMS?

No. The starting email offer includes 250 SMS credits separately from unlimited email sends. Forecast the required mailable-contact tier and SMS credits together when comparing it with OptiMonk plus another sender.

Does uninstalling Privy cancel every plan?

No. Its guide says uninstalling the app or closing a connected store does not cancel subscriptions. Manage each plan through My Plan & Billing. Cancellation removes associated paid features immediately, so coordinate it with the replacement campaign and sending workflow.
