Who each one is for

Start with your use case, then weigh the strengths and limitations that matter to your site.

Consider Popupsmart for

Shopify stores and small sites that want a working popup the same day, with a real free plan and gamification included.

  • Free plan is usable: 5K pageviews, one live popup, no card required
  • Shopify app rates 4.8/5 from 50 reviews with a one-click install
  • Spin-to-win and lottery-ball gamification ship on every plan
  • Unlimited live popups from the first paid plan

Watch for these limitations

  • A/B testing starts only on Advanced ($57.50/mo billed annually)
  • Free plan has no analytics, one website, and a 5K pageview cap
  • Pageview overage is $10 per extra 10K when auto-extend is on
  • Reviewers still report domain verification taking more than one try

Consider Wisepops for

Ecommerce teams that want a strategist running popups, bars, quizzes, feed and web push, and will pay from a few hundred dollars a month.

  • Six on-site channels in one campaign model, not just popups
  • Targeting still among the most detailed in this field
  • Shopify listing publishes a $299 plan with a 14-day trial
  • A/B tests can use a holdout group and auto-conclude at 95%

Watch for these limitations

  • No public price grid on wisepops.com; most plans need a demo call
  • Self-serve is Shopify-only; other CMSs go through sales
  • Pageview metering plus extra-site fees get expensive at scale
  • No free plan, only a 14-day trial

The detailed comparison

Features, trade-offs and the evidence behind the verdict.

Jump to a topic

Popupsmart publishes a plan grid, while Wisepops presents both Shopify self-service and an offering with ongoing services. The useful comparison is the cost of delivering your campaign: software, traffic capacity and the work your team must perform. A strategist should not be assumed to come with every Wisepops subscription.

How do you compare software with a service-inclusive offer?

Ask for a proposal that separates platform access, traffic capacity and service deliverables. Record who builds campaigns, who approves copy, who checks integrations and who reviews results. Wisepops’s homepage distinguishes its Shopify self-service product from the offering with strategist support and business reviews.

Do not subtract an assumed number of agency hours from the subscription price. Obtain the actual audit, campaign-build and review schedule first: the homepage uses different descriptions of review cadence. An included strategist is useful only if the agreed work matches what your team needs to delegate.

For Popupsmart, use the plan required by the campaign. Basic’s $390 annual total is not an A/B-testing quote; Advanced is $690 annually. Add your own implementation and review time when comparing it with an offer that includes services. This does not imply either vendor charges an extra fee for every setup task.

Do you need the additional channels?

Wisepops presents six on-site channels. More channels can create additional ways to communicate, but they also require decisions about overlapping messages, consent, frequency and ownership. List the channels you will actually launch in the first phase and define a separate purpose for each.

For example, a welcome capture popup and a returning-customer notification should not automatically show the same incentive. Test the intended audience exclusions and dismissal behavior. A single successful popup requirement does not by itself justify a broader channel subscription; equally, a multi-channel brief should not be priced as one basic popup.

What should targeting and integration tests prove?

Use a concrete audience brief instead of a broad targeting winner. Identify the customer segment, required data, message and destination. Wisepops’s directory describes both sending leads to Klaviyo and using Klaviyo segments for targeting; these are different directions of data flow.

For either product, confirm the exact direction you need. Submit a test lead and check fields and list membership, then separately test whether an existing segment changes campaign eligibility. Record how quickly updates become available and what happens when identification is unavailable. A connector logo alone does not prove every part of that workflow.

How should you choose?

Evaluate Popupsmart when its required plan and campaign workflow fit your team’s operating capacity. Evaluate Wisepops when its channel scope or explicitly contracted services solve a requirement you have identified. Compare selected allowances and deliverables rather than treating a sales call, public price or editor label as evidence of quality.

These are buying and validation criteria, not a claim that we measured a conversion lift or completed a managed engagement with either vendor.

Questions before you decide

Frequently asked questions

Does every Wisepops plan include a strategist?

No. The homepage separates Shopify self-service from the offering with strategist support and business reviews. Record the actual service deliverables in the quote before comparing it with Popupsmart and your own campaign-management time.

How should I compare the included service-review cadence?

Ask for the audit, campaign-build and review schedule in the proposal. Wisepops’s homepage uses different descriptions of timing, so it does not establish one cadence for every contract. Use the agreed schedule to assess the work your team would still own.

Does a Klaviyo connection prove that segment targeting will work?

Not by itself. Sending a lead to an email list and using an existing email segment to target a campaign are different data flows. Wisepops describes both in its directory. Verify the required direction, field mapping, identification and update timing in the actual setup for either product.

What Popupsmart budget should I use when A/B testing is required?

Use Advanced’s checked annual total of $690 rather than Basic’s $390. Compare that with the Wisepops offer that supports the same experiment, traffic and services. A price comparison should state whether setup and ongoing review are handled internally or included in a proposal.
