Who each one is for

Start with your use case, then weigh the strengths and limitations that matter to your site.

Consider Popupsmart for

Shopify stores and small sites that want a working popup the same day, with a real free plan and gamification included.

  • Free plan is usable: 5K pageviews, one live popup, no card required
  • Shopify app rates 4.8/5 from 50 reviews with a one-click install
  • Spin-to-win and lottery-ball gamification ship on every plan
  • Unlimited live popups from the first paid plan

Watch for these limitations

  • A/B testing starts only on Advanced ($57.50/mo billed annually)
  • Free plan has no analytics, one website, and a 5K pageview cap
  • Pageview overage is $10 per extra 10K when auto-extend is on
  • Reviewers still report domain verification taking more than one try

Consider Privy for

Ecommerce stores that want onsite capture and email or SMS follow-up in one platform and can forecast list, traffic and message growth.

  • Displays, email campaigns, SMS and automated Flows share one platform
  • A separate Displays route lets stores keep an external sending platform
  • Paid email lists unlimited sends while SMS remains separately measurable
  • Current documentation covers trial limits, auto-scaling and credit expiry

Watch for these limitations

  • No permanent free plan in the current post-8-July-2025 catalog
  • A combined implementation can depend on pageviews, mailable contacts and SMS credits
  • Contact auto-scaling can change the tier without a notification
  • Uninstalling the app or closing the connected store does not cancel billing

Jump to a topic

Popupsmart and Privy can both be considered for subscriber capture, but Privy’s display-only and email offers solve different buying needs. Compare Popupsmart with Privy Displays when you intend to keep your email platform. Evaluate Privy Email separately if replacing that platform is part of the project.

Sources: Popupsmart pricing and Privy pricing, checked 5 September 2026. Starting prices do not establish the cost at every traffic or contact tier. Popupsmart’s free live-campaign entitlement needs confirmation because vendor surfaces differ.

What is the cost if you keep your email platform?

Start with the display or capture subscription, then add the email platform you will continue paying for. At the starting rate, twelve monthly Privy Displays payments total $288. Popupsmart Basic totals $468 across twelve monthly payments or $390 on its annual plan. This arithmetic is not a like-for-like capacity quote: select the required pageview allowance, domains and campaign controls before deciding.

An existing Klaviyo or other email subscription does not automatically rule out Privy. Its display-only offer is a separate option to evaluate. Test whether the exact list, fields and consent state arrive at your existing destination before committing to either capture tool.

What changes if you replace your email platform?

Privy Email starts at $30 monthly and uses mailable contacts. Its pricing page lists unlimited email sends and 250 included SMS credits, but unlimited email does not mean unlimited text messages. Record the configured contact tier and SMS credit requirement to obtain a useful quote.

Compare that quote with your current email subscription plus your planned popup subscription. Include any period when both senders will remain active during migration. A lower entry price is not a saving if the required contact tier costs more or the old subscription continues running.

What should a migration prove before switching?

Use a small controlled test to check the signup form, consent state, custom properties, segment membership and welcome message. Map the automations you depend on, including exclusions for existing customers. Review what happens to suppressed contacts so that moving data does not accidentally restart messages to people who opted out.

These are evaluation steps, not a claim that we completed a client migration. The right choice depends on whether your actual workflow survives the move, not on an assumed advantage from a Shopify installation or an app-store rating.

How do you avoid overlapping subscriptions?

Privy’s plan-management guide, checked 5 September 2026, says uninstalling its app or closing a connected store does not cancel subscriptions. Manage every active plan in My Plan & Billing. Cancellation removes the associated paid features immediately, so coordinate it with the replacement workflow and retain the confirmation.

Choose a capture-first evaluation when your current email platform already meets your needs. Compare Popupsmart and Privy Displays against the same pageviews and destination requirements. Choose an email-replacement evaluation when consolidating sending is an explicit requirement; compare Privy’s configured quote with the complete cost of your current stack.

Questions before you decide

Frequently asked questions

Must I replace my email platform to consider Privy?

No. Privy lists a separate Pop-ups & Displays-only offer from $24 monthly. Compare that with Popupsmart when keeping your current sender. Verify the required destination list, custom fields and consent handling; the existence of a display-only offer does not prove every integration requirement is supported.

Is Privy Email the same purchase as Popupsmart Basic?

No. Privy Email starts at $30 monthly and bills by mailable contacts, while Popupsmart Basic is primarily compared by its pageview and website allowance. If replacing your email platform is part of the brief, compare the configured Privy quote with both your email and popup subscriptions.

Are Privy text messages unlimited with the email offer?

No. Unlimited email sends and SMS credits are separate allowances. The starting email offer includes 250 SMS credits. Forecast additional SMS use separately and check the configured quote; do not translate the unlimited email allowance into unlimited text messages.

Does uninstalling Privy stop its subscription charges?

No. Its plan-management guide says uninstalling the app or closing the connected store does not cancel subscriptions. Manage each active plan through My Plan & Billing. The guide says cancellation removes associated paid features immediately, so coordinate the timing with your replacement workflow.
