Who each one is for

Start with your use case, then weigh the strengths and limitations that matter to your site.

Consider Popupsmart for

Shopify stores and small sites that want a working popup the same day, with a real free plan and gamification included.

  • Free plan is usable: 5K pageviews, one live popup, no card required
  • Shopify app rates 4.8/5 from 50 reviews with a one-click install
  • Spin-to-win and lottery-ball gamification ship on every plan
  • Unlimited live popups from the first paid plan

Watch for these limitations

  • A/B testing starts only on Advanced ($57.50/mo billed annually)
  • Free plan has no analytics, one website, and a 5K pageview cap
  • Pageview overage is $10 per extra 10K when auto-extend is on
  • Reviewers still report domain verification taking more than one try

Consider OptiMonk for

Ecommerce teams evaluating gamified campaigns and capture into an existing marketing platform, with a site-pageview allowance that fits their forecast.

  • Vendor documentation describes Lucky Wheel, Pick a Gift and Scratchcard campaigns
  • Free entry point with 10,000 pageviews and one domain for an initial evaluation
  • Campaign priority and frequency controls for overlapping offers
  • Klaviyo setup guide documents list selection, field mapping and coupon properties

Watch for these limitations

  • Whole-site pageviews determine the allowance even when campaigns target a smaller audience
  • Free campaigns retain OptiMonk branding; confirm required feature access in the selected plan
  • Campaign display and downstream contact delivery require separate acceptance checks
  • Larger pageview steps need their own price check; entry rates do not cover every allowance

Who wins on price?

OptiMonk, to start.

Yearly Essential is $19/mo for 20,000 pageviews. Popupsmart Basic is $32.50 for 50,000 and three sites. If you need the extra quota and extra sites on one paid rung, Popupsmart can be the better bill. If you want to try a wheel at $0 with tests, OptiMonk Free wins. Popupsmart Free has no tests.

Overage: Popupsmart is $10 per extra 10,000 pageviews with auto-extend. OptiMonk sells the next step inside Essential (30k, 50k) before you jump to Growth at $99 / $69 yearly.

Who wins on gamification?

Neither, if the brief is "a wheel that collects an email." Both ship it.

For a sequence of offers, list the trigger, audience condition, suppression rule and destination for each step. Test an eligible visitor and an excluded visitor in both tools. A feature category or a screenshot does not prove which implementation handles your sequence better.

Who should pick which?

Popupsmart is worth evaluating when Basic’s capacity and site allowance meet the brief and A/B testing is not required. If testing is required, use Advanced’s price in the comparison.

OptiMonk is worth evaluating first when you need A/B testing within the free allowance and can accept its branding and domain limit. This is a requirement-based shortlist, not a measured performance ranking.

What does a testing project cost?

Popupsmart Advanced lists a $57.50 monthly equivalent billed annually, or $690 for the year. Basic’s $390 annual cost understates a project that requires A/B testing. OptiMonk offers that feature on Free, but the free traffic allowance may not fit the experiment. Compare the required allowance and domain count as well as feature access.

A test should track the same offer, eligible audience and downstream outcome. Neither a free feature nor a higher subscription price establishes that a campaign produces better results.

Questions before you decide

Frequently asked questions

Which plan should I compare if A/B testing is required?

Popupsmart’s checked pricing matrix places A/B testing on Advanced and above, while OptiMonk includes it on Free. Compare Advanced rather than Basic for that requirement, then check whether OptiMonk’s free traffic and domain limits fit the project.

Does the same pageview meter mean the entry plans have equal capacity?

No. Popupsmart Basic lists 50,000 pageviews and three sites, while the cited OptiMonk Essential entry band lists 20,000 pageviews. A shared unit makes comparison easier but does not make the packages equal. Obtain the relevant OptiMonk band quote before deciding.

What annual budget should I use for Popupsmart Advanced?

The checked $57.50 monthly equivalent represents $690 billed for a year. Basic’s $390 annual total is a different tier and does not include the cited A/B requirement. Confirm the selected plan and checkout terms before committing.

Can I choose between the tools based only on a wheel template?

Both checked pricing pages list gamification. Test the reward, audience conditions, mobile dismissal and destination record with your actual offer. The presence of a wheel does not establish better lead quality or incremental revenue for either product.
