Who each one is for

Reasons to pick one over the other, taken from each tool's profile — not a feature-by-feature scorecard.

Choose Hello Bar if

Sites that mainly need a top-of-page bar or a simple popup, not a personalisation stack.

  • A bar or modal can go live in minutes with no developer
  • Paid plans include A/B tests, geo rules and date/time targeting
  • Free forever Starter plan exists, though it caps at 5,000 lifetime views

Skip Hello Bar if

  • Starter views never refresh; 5,000 is a lifetime cap, not monthly
  • G2 score sits on 25 reviews and an unmanaged profile
  • The vendor's own pricing page still prints two different price lists
  • Analytics and design depth lag OptiMonk, Wisepops and Sleeknote

Choose Mailmunch if

Bloggers and small Shopify or Wix stores that want popups plus a basic email send without paying for two tools.

  • Popups, landing pages and email send live in one editor
  • Premium starts at $13.99/mo billed yearly for 1,000 contacts
  • Native installs for Shopify, Wix and WordPress
  • Shopify App Store still rates the app 4.5/5 from 147 reviews

Skip Mailmunch if

  • No public REST API; custom work uses HTTP Post webhooks
  • Design options stay basic; form width is a recurring complaint
  • Paid price scales with list size and the scale is not a public table
  • Free plan keeps Mailmunch branding and a single welcome email

  • Hello Bar’s template library is a treasure mine! I find it so resourceful on days when my creative wheels just aren’t turning. But most importantly, Hello Bar is ridiculously easy to use. I bet even my kids could use it
  • It's super easy to use, even for someone like me who's not exactly tech-savvy. It has a ton of pre-designed templates to choose from, so I didn't have to spend hours fiddling with code. In just a few minutes, I had a sle
  • I’ll always rave about Hello Bar’s easy implementation. No need to bore yourself with complex setups that will leave you with a headache. On top of that, it has user-friendly features that make it easy to integrate with
  • While Hello Bar offers well-rounded features, it’s its targeting capabilities that take the trophy for me. I can easily deliver the right message to the right person at the right time.
  • Nothing amazes me more than the simplicity and effectiveness of Hello Bar. It's incredibly user-friendly and has such a gentle learning curve that I had no trouble using it. Previously, I sent generic popups to all my we

Reviewers push back

  • I admit that Hello Bar gives me so many marketing features, and I’m so grateful for that. However, at the risk of sounding greedy, it would be nice to get more targeting functions. Besides that, everything else is perfec
  • One thing I wish Hello Bar offered was more advanced targeting options. Right now, I can target by page, but segmenting by visitor behavior would be a game-changer. Still, for the price, it's a great value.
  • If I had the opportunity, I’d ask for more built-in integrations, but even without that, Hello Bar is still effective.
  • I feel the design customization options might feel a bit limited compared to more feature-rich competitors, especially with the free version.
  • Hello Bar has revolutionized my marketing ecosystem by integrating seamlessly with Shopify and HubSpot, two of my favorite eCommerce platforms. Although this integration can occasionally be a bit challenging, I've always

Mailmunch

Reviewers like

  • I have been looking for an email marketing platform that caters to small businesses and when I say I ahve been looking I have been.
  • Mailmunch has made it easy to purchase the program I needed and support to follow was amazing! It is so easy to use and I am not very tech savvy at all! The features and benefits are more than I expected.
  • I admit that I picked Mailmmunch due to its really good pricing, compared to other services. But not only are they good in pricing, their services AND their support are GREAT(!)
  • Easy UX, pretty simple to workaround, didn't require any special resource to operate, CS is always there to support.
  • Relatively easy to use if you don't have design experience. Customer support is pretty good.

Reviewers push back

  • There was a little confusion about which program I had chosen but with customer supports help it was easily fixed!
  • I live in a different time zone, so support can take a while (not their fault)
  • Basic program. Extremely limited in designs, but you can upload your own and find work arounds.
  • Weekly email limit is less.
  • They could have an API to integrate from other tools.

From G2 reviews of Mailmunch, collected August 2026. These are G2's own words, not our ranking.

Mailmunch is the cheaper stack if you need popups and the email sends in one bill. Hello Bar is the onsite-only bar and popup tool.

Mailmunch Premium is $13.99 a month billed yearly ($19.99 month-to-month) for 1,000 contacts (mailmunch.com/pricing, 23 August 2026). Hello Bar Growth is $39 a month billed yearly for 50,000 popup views (hellobar.com/pricing). Our 2023 copy had Hello Bar Pro at $10 or $29, depending on the paragraph. That was already a mess. It is also wrong now.

Pick Mailmunch if the job is "grow a list and email it." Pick Hello Bar if you already pay for Kit, Klaviyo or Mailchimp and you only need the unit on the page.

PopupBuilder.io is independent. Neither vendor pays for this page.

Who wins on price?

Mailmunch, for almost every small site.

Lead-capture Premium at $13.99/mo yearly includes unlimited forms and landing pages, 1,000 contacts, unlimited campaigns, automation, Shopify abandoned-cart emails, premium templates, advanced analytics, drip, custom domains, and no Mailmunch branding. Month-to-month is $19.99. Team management is a $9.99/mo add-on. Whitelabel is listed at the same $9.99 add-on price.

Mailmunch's email-marketing ladder is separate: Essential $6.99/mo yearly (500 subscribers), Pro $13.99/mo yearly (1,000), Agency $6.90/mo with a contact CTA. Free on that ladder is one autoresponder.

Hello Bar Growth at $39/mo yearly is 50,000 popup views, 3 seats, A/B tests, branding off. It does not send mail. Starter is $0 with a 5,000-view lifetime cap. The Hello Bar page still prints a cheaper $29 / $49 / $99 table; we use the hero cards. Monthly Hello Bar rates did not render. Full notes: Hello Bar pricing.

Money-back: Mailmunch prints 30 days on the lead-capture block and 60 days on the email block. Hello Bar's pricing page says cancel any time, no published refund window.

Who wins on features?

Depends what "features" means.

Hello Bar is the stronger onsite builder. Five formats (bars, modals, alerts, sliders, takeovers), a design assistant, geo / date / time targeting on paid plans, A/B tests from Growth. The 2023 version of this page said Hello Bar "only has a few pre-built templates" and "does not" do custom form fields. The vendor now claims "100s of pre-built themes." Custom fields vs Mailmunch: we could not confirm a current Hello Bar limit from public docs, so we are not repeating the 2023 claim.

Mailmunch is the stronger list-growth kit. Popups, landing pages, welcome and drip email, Shopify cart mail, spinwheels and coupons in the product nav. Native apps for Shopify, Wix, WordPress and Weebly. You can stay inside Mailmunch after the opt-in. Hello Bar always hands the address to someone else.

If you already like your ESP, Hello Bar's onsite targeting is the useful half. If you do not have an ESP, Mailmunch removes a vendor.

Who wins on integrations?

Hello Bar has the longer ESP list. Mailmunch has the deeper "we are the ESP" story.

Hello Bar's directory names Mailchimp, Kit (ConvertKit), Klaviyo, Constant Contact, ActiveCampaign, HubSpot, Salesforce, AWeber, Campaign Monitor, Drip, GetResponse, Zapier, webhooks, Shopify, BigCommerce, WordPress, Wix. HubSpot/Salesforce may still be Elite-only; the 2023 plan article said so, the 2026 page does not.

Mailmunch connects to the usual ESPs (Mailchimp, AWeber, Campaign Monitor) and to Shopify and WooCommerce, and it can skip that layer by sending mail itself. There is no public API.

See Hello Bar integrations and Mailmunch integrations.

Which one should you buy?

Mailmunch if you do not already pay for email, you are under ~1,000 contacts, and you want popups plus landing pages plus sends on one card. $13.99/mo yearly is the default. Read the Mailmunch page.

Hello Bar if Kit, Klaviyo or Mailchimp already has the list, and you want a bar or a modal with geo and date rules and A/B tests. $39/mo yearly. Read the Hello Bar review.

Neither if you need gamified ecommerce campaigns (OptiMonk at $19/mo yearly) or a DTC tool with phone support (Sleeknote at €49/mo yearly). Longer list: Hello Bar alternatives.

For a two-person blog that has been putting it off: Mailmunch. For a site that already has an ESP and wants a header subscribe bar this afternoon: Hello Bar.
