Who each one is for

Reasons to pick one over the other, taken from each tool's profile — not a feature-by-feature scorecard.

Choose OptiMonk if

Ecommerce stores that want spin-to-win and other gamified campaigns, plus a Klaviyo-ready capture layer, without paying extra for those campaign types.

  • Gamified campaign types (lucky wheel, pick-a-gift, scratchcard) ship on every plan
  • Free plan covers 10,000 pageviews with A/B testing and unlimited campaigns
  • Support scores 9.7/10 on G2; live chat is advertised under 3 minutes
  • Shopify app rated 4.8 from 420 reviews as of August 2026

Skip OptiMonk if

  • Billed on all site pageviews, not campaign impressions, so cost jumps with traffic
  • Template styling still needs trial and error, per recent G2 reviews
  • Mobile exit-intent needs a separate setup and is less reliable than desktop
  • After Essential, the next self-serve jump is Growth at $99 a month

Choose Mailmunch if

Bloggers and small Shopify or Wix stores that want popups plus a basic email send without paying for two tools.

  • Popups, landing pages and email send live in one editor
  • Premium starts at $13.99/mo billed yearly for 1,000 contacts
  • Native installs for Shopify, Wix and WordPress
  • Shopify App Store still rates the app 4.5/5 from 147 reviews

Skip Mailmunch if

  • No public REST API; custom work uses HTTP Post webhooks
  • Design options stay basic; form width is a recurring complaint
  • Paid price scales with list size and the scale is not a public table
  • Free plan keeps Mailmunch branding and a single welcome email

Mailmunch

Reviewers like

  • I have been looking for an email marketing platform that caters to small businesses and when I say I ahve been looking I have been.
  • Mailmunch has made it easy to purchase the program I needed and support to follow was amazing! It is so easy to use and I am not very tech savvy at all! The features and benefits are more than I expected.
  • I admit that I picked Mailmmunch due to its really good pricing, compared to other services. But not only are they good in pricing, their services AND their support are GREAT(!)
  • Easy UX, pretty simple to workaround, didn't require any special resource to operate, CS is always there to support.
  • Relatively easy to use if you don't have design experience. Customer support is pretty good.

Reviewers push back

  • There was a little confusion about which program I had chosen but with customer supports help it was easily fixed!
  • I live in a different time zone, so support can take a while (not their fault)
  • Basic program. Extremely limited in designs, but you can upload your own and find work arounds.
  • Weekly email limit is less.
  • They could have an API to integrate from other tools.
