Privy is the Shopify store pick. Mailmunch is the cheap list-growth pick for publishers. If you sell products on Shopify and want the follow-up email in the same app, take Privy ($30/month for 1,500 contacts; privy.com/pricing, 23 August 2026). If you run a content site and want popups plus landing pages on a small budget, take Mailmunch.

Who should win: Privy or Mailmunch?
| Privy | Mailmunch | |
|---|---|---|
| Job | Shopify capture + email/SMS | Popups + landing pages + cheap mail |
| Best audience | Ecommerce | Publishers, small lists |
| Sending | Unlimited email on paid plans, SMS add-on | Email in-app, shallower automations |
| Shopify depth | Native, product blocks, cart Flows | Connects, does not live there |
| Free | 15-day trial | Free plan on this site's last check |
| Floor (paid) | $24 displays / $30 email | $13.99/month Premium, billed yearly (1,000 contacts) |
Mailmunch Premium is $13.99/month billed yearly for 1,000 contacts (mailmunch.com/pricing, 23 August 2026). Shopify merchants see a separate list. See Mailmunch pricing.
The 2023 page on this URL claimed Privy was priced on unique visitors from $24 to $199, and that Mailmunch was a single "Premium" plan from $9 to $199. Both descriptions were already messy then. Privy is contacts (email) or pageviews (displays). Mailmunch is a subscriber-metered cheap stack.
How do the features differ?
Mailmunch's useful trick is that landing pages and popups share an editor. Form widths are hard to control. The free tier ships a handful of templates. There is no public API. Fine for a newsletter landing page. Tight for a store.
Privy does not try to be a landing-page builder (it has landing-page displays, which is a different object). It tries to be the store's mail. Abandoned cart, browse abandonment, back-in-stock, Shopify coupons, SMS. That kit is wasted on a blog.
Both can grow a list. Only Privy will recover a Shopify cart without a second app.
What about integrations?
Privy: Shopify-first, plus Klaviyo and Mailchimp if you insist on sending elsewhere. Privy integrations.
Mailmunch: mainstream ESPs, no public API. Mailmunch integrations.
If you already live in Mailchimp, Mailmunch as the popup is a smaller leap than Privy as a second ESP.
How do prices compare?
Privy 23 August 2026: Privy pricing.
| Contacts | Privy Email / month |
|---|---|
| 1,500 | $30 |
| 5,000 | $90 |
| 10,000 | $165 |
Mailmunch: $13.99/month Premium billed yearly at 1,000 contacts, then a list-size calculator. Free plan keeps Mailmunch branding and a single welcome email.
Mailmunch is cheaper for a small list. Privy is cheaper than Klaviyo once you want Shopify Flows and SMS, and more expensive than a popup-only tool. The comparison only holds if both tools are asked to send mail. If Mailmunch is the popup and Mailchimp is the ESP, you are no longer comparing like for like.
Frequently asked questions
Does Mailmunch do SMS?
Not as a first-class Shopify SMS product. Privy does, US and Canada, credit-based.
Should a Shopify store start on Mailmunch?
Only if the budget is the constraint and you will outgrow it on purpose. Starting on Privy avoids a migration. Starting on Mailmunch saves money until it does not.
