Privy Alternatives

The short version

Leave Privy if you only need a popup, if you already pay Klaviyo to send, or if you want a free plan. Popupsmart, Poptin, OptiMonk, Sleeknote, Wisepops and Hello Bar cover those jobs. Privy stays in the mix when capture and Shopify email have to be one app.

Checked privy.com/pricing and apps.shopify.com/privy on 2026-08-23. New customers after 8 July 2025 choose Displays ($24/month at 10,000 pageviews) or Email ($30/month at 1,500 mailable contacts, 250 SMS credits included). SMS is an add-on. The 2023 Free and $15 Starter plans are gone for new accounts. Pre-July 2025 accounts may still sit on Convert Only, Starter or Growth.

Which alternative matches the job?

Job Tool Why not Privy
Popup, no ESP Popupsmart, Poptin Privy now sells email. You would pay for a product you will not use, and there is no free plan.
Gamified on-site OptiMonk Stronger spin-to-win and on-site personalisation.
Design-led ecommerce popup Sleeknote Better editor. No sending, on purpose.
Deep targeting, demo pricing Wisepops More rules. Public price list withdrawn.
A bar and a simple opt-in Hello Bar Smaller job.
Landing pages plus popups Mailmunch Cheaper list-growth stack for publishers.
Capture + Shopify email/SMS Privy Still the one-app answer.

Popupsmart

Popupsmart is a no-code popup builder. It does not send email or SMS. That is the point.

Use it when the store already has Klaviyo, Mailchimp or Shopify Email and you just need the on-site form. Free plan: 5,000 pageviews, one live popup, no card. Paid Basic is $32.50/month billed annually ($39 monthly). A/B tests start on Advanced. Reviewers still mention domain verification taking a few tries.

Popupsmart is the default "I do not want an ESP" answer on this site. Full comparison: Popupsmart vs Privy. Pricing: Popupsmart pricing.

Poptin

Poptin is a popup and form widget with a free plan that is actually usable (1,000 unique visitors, unlimited campaigns, one domain), metered on monthly visitors. Paid Basic is $25/month.

Triggers, A/B tests and Zapier cover the usual small-site setup. The template library is smaller than OptiMonk or Wisepops. Analytics can disagree with the site's own numbers. Intrusive campaigns are a user-error problem, not a product one.

Pick Poptin over Privy when you want a free popup and you already send mail somewhere else. Comparison: Privy vs Poptin.

Sleeknote

Sleeknote is a design-led ecommerce popup tool. Core starts at $55/month billed annually (0–25,000 visitors). 14-day trial, no card. There is no free forever tier.

Templates are actually editable. Multi-domain promotions are a first-class feature. HubSpot and Zapier cover most stacks. The integration list is shorter than Privy's, and the backend opens too many windows. HTML and CSS still help if you want full control.

Pick Sleeknote when the popup has to look like the brand and you do not want Privy's email meter. Comparison: Sleeknote vs Privy.

Wisepops

Wisepops is an on-site messaging platform: popups, bars, embeds, one campaign model.

Targeting is the reason to pay. Behaviour, location, language, 40-plus rules. wisepops.com/pricing is a demo form. High-touch plans start around $499/month (or €499, depending which FAQ you read). Shopify self-serve is $299/month at 500k pageviews. Extra sites are $10/website/month. The 2023 $49 grid is gone.

Pick Wisepops when targeting depth matters and you will pay a few hundred dollars a month. Comparison: Privy vs Wisepops.

Hello Bar

Hello Bar started as a notification bar and grew into popups. It is still the small tool.

A working bar takes minutes. Free Starter exists but the 5,000 views are a lifetime cap. Paid Growth is $39/month billed annually. There is no Shopify SMS and no abandoned-cart Flow.

Pick Hello Bar for an announcement or a simple opt-in on a content site. Pick Privy for a store. Comparison: Privy vs Hello Bar.

When should you keep Privy?

Keep it when the alternative would be Privy Convert plus Klaviyo plus a second invoice, and the store is not ready for that. Email from $30/month with unlimited sends is cheaper than Klaviyo's paid email for a lot of small lists. The moment a marketer is hired to live in flows, revisit the stack.

Displays-only at $24/month is the halfway house: Privy for the popup, Klaviyo for the mail. That is a valid setup. It is also two vendors, two bills, and a sync rule on every display.

More on the product: Privy. More on the bill: Privy pricing.
