Leave Poptin when the free-plan-and-public-price brief stops matching the job. Shopify stores that want email and SMS in the same app should look at Privy. Design-led ecommerce should look at Sleeknote. Targeting past a $119 cap should look at Wisepops, knowing you will book a demo.
Poptin is still the right default if you want a popup this week, a published price (Free, then Basic at $25/mo), and A/B testing that is not locked to the top tier. The rest of this page is the cases where it isn't.
Which Poptin alternative fits which job?
| Job | Alternative | Why it wins | Why you might stay on Poptin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shopify capture + email/SMS | Privy | Popup and the follow-up live in one product | You are not on Shopify, or you already have an ESP |
| Shopify popups billed on orders | Adoric | $4.99/mo for 0–100 monthly orders, 7-day trial. Web SaaS is a separate $100/mo floor | You need a cheap non-Shopify web plan |
| Design-led ecommerce | Sleeknote | Templates you can restyle | You will not pay Sleeknote money for looks |
| First campaign this afternoon | Popupsmart | Same "live today" brief, pageview meter | You prefer Poptin's visitor meter and free 1,000 |
| Gamified Shopify campaigns | OptiMonk | Spin-to-win without building it | You don't need gamification |
| Tests and reporting as the product | OptinMonster | A/B tests and analytics are first-class | No free plan; you wanted a public cheap tier |
| Deep targeting, will take a demo | Wisepops | Bars, embeds, personalisation, strategist-led CRO | No self-serve grid; FAQ from $499 / €499; Shopify app $299/mo |
| Header/footer bars | Hello Bar | Persistent bars are the product | You want the full popup trigger set |
| Landing pages + the send | Mailmunch | Forms, landing pages and email in one bill | You already have an ESP |
Poptin vs the five we own a pair page for: Adoric, Hello Bar, Mailmunch, Sumo, Wisepops.
Sleeknote
Sleeknote is the design-led ecommerce popup tool. If the reason you are shopping is "Poptin's templates look like Poptin," this is the first tab to open.

It has a 14-day trial, not a free plan. Core starts at $55/mo billed annually for 0–25,000 monthly visitors on a US view of sleeknote.com/pricing (checked 18 Aug 2026; an EU view on 23 Aug showed EUR 49 billed annually for the same plan). Pair page: Sleeknote vs Poptin.
Stay on Poptin if you need a free plan you can publish and a printed $25 Basic.
Privy
Privy is popups plus email and SMS, built around Shopify, priced on contacts. If the Poptin lead just sits in a CSV until someone pastes it into Klaviyo, Privy is the cleaner stack.

New accounts after 8 July 2025 have no free plan. Displays start at $24/mo (10,000 pageviews); Email at $30/mo (1,500 mailable contacts). The 2023 Free and $15 Starter plans are gone for new buyers. Source: privy.com/pricing, 23 Aug 2026. Pair page: Privy vs Poptin.
Stay on Poptin if you are not on Shopify, or you already like your ESP.
Popupsmart
Popupsmart is the other "campaign live this afternoon" builder. It meters pageviews, not unique visitors. That meter runs hotter: the same session can eat several pageviews.

Basic is $32.50/mo billed annually (pageviews) on popupsmart.com/pricing, 23 Aug 2026. Monthly billing is $39. The Shopify listing also prints a $19 Starter plan the website does not. Pair page: Popupsmart vs Poptin.
Stay on Poptin if the visitor meter and the $0 / $25 public ladder matter more than Popupsmart's editor.
OptiMonk
OptiMonk is popups plus on-site personalisation, strong on gamified campaigns, metered on pageviews. If the brief is a spin-to-win on a Shopify store, OptiMonk is the specialist.

Essential is $29/mo, or $19/mo billed annually, on optimonk.com/pricing, 23 Aug 2026. Free plan exists. Pair page: OptiMonk vs Poptin.
Stay on Poptin if you do not need gamification and you want the cheaper public free plan.
Sumo
Sumo used to be the growth kit: opt-in forms, share buttons, analytics, in one script. Showit acquired it in December 2023 and rebranded it to BDOW in April 2024. sumo.com/pricing now loads Refract. We do not publish a Sumo price.

Do not pick Sumo in 2026 on the strength of a 2023 comparison. The living successor is BDOW, which is a different listing. Pair page: Poptin vs Sumo.
Wisepops, Hello Bar, Mailmunch, Adoric, OptinMonster
Shorter notes for the rest of the matrix.
Wisepops. Targeting and on-site messaging (popups, bars, embeds) that Poptin does not match at the $25–$119 band. wisepops.com/pricing is a demo page. Wisepops' own FAQ says from $499/mo or €499/mo; the Shopify App Store lists $299/mo for 500k pageviews. Pair: Poptin vs Wisepops.
Hello Bar. Persistent header and footer bars, plus modals. Growth is $39/mo billed annually on the plan cards and $29/mo billed annually in the feature table on hellobar.com/pricing (23 Aug 2026). Free is 5,000 lifetime views. Meter is popup views, not unique visitors. Pair: Poptin vs Hello Bar.
Mailmunch. Popups plus landing pages plus the email send. Lead Capture Premium is $19.99/mo or $13.99 billed annually for 1,000 contacts, checked 23 Aug 2026 on mailmunch.com/pricing. Pick it if the list is the product. Pair: Poptin vs Mailmunch.
Adoric. Two tracks. Shopify app billed on monthly store orders, from $4.99 (0–100 orders) with a 7-day trial (help article, 8 July 2026). Web SaaS from $100/mo Basic. Pair: Poptin vs Adoric.
OptinMonster. The testing-and-analytics suite. No free plan. Intro annual rates start at $7/mo billed annually for Basic (60% off for 12 months); renewal is higher. Metered on campaign impressions. Source: optinmonster.com/pricing, 23 Aug 2026. Pair: OptinMonster vs Poptin.
Should you stay on Poptin?
Yes if the job is "get a popup live, keep a public price, maybe split-test the headline." No if the job is Shopify lifecycle, brand-sensitive design, or targeting you will pay a sales team to scope. The review is the longer version of that split.
