Sumo VS Hello Bar Comparison

The verdict

Sumo vs Hello Bar is a living tool against a dead brand. Hello Bar still sells bars, modals and takeovers, with a free plan up to 5,000 lifetime views. Sumo is BDOW now. If you wanted a bar, Hello Bar wins. If you already have a Sumo Site ID on Showit, stay on BDOW.

Sumo checked August 2026; Hello Bar checked August 2026. Both vendors change prices without notice — confirm on their own pages before you buy.

Sumo does not sell popup tools. Hello Bar does.

📌
Verdict. New campaign: Hello Bar. Leftover Sumo on Showit: BDOW. Anyone still weighing "Sumo Pro vs Hello Bar Pro" is comparing a 2023 invoice to a live product. Hello Bar's free plan (5,000 lifetime views, not a monthly reset) is a thinner cousin of Sumo's old free plan.

The 2023 copy on this URL called them "two prominent tools" and refused to pick one. One of them has since been sold, renamed, and detached from its domain. The other is still at hellobar.com.

Who is still selling?

Showit bought Sumo in December 2023 and relaunched it as BDOW! in April 2024. sumo.com is Refract. Hello Bar is unchanged as a vendor: bars, modals, alerts, sliders, page takeovers.

Hello Bar's own Hello Bar vs Sumo page still frames Sumo as a current competitor and quotes Starter $15 / Plus $25 / Pro $49. Those are old Sumo (or early BDOW) figures. Do not use that page as a 2026 price list.

Hello Bar's pricing page disagrees with itself on the annual Growth/Premium/Elite dollars (hero $39/$69/$129, table $29/$49/$99). We quote the hero because that is the figure on the signup button (growth_1-yearly).

The 2023 version of this page said Sumo Pro was $29/month and Pro Plus $49. Our own January 2023 research recorded Sumo Pro at $39/month. We are not recycling either as a current Sumo price.

Features that actually differ

Hello Bar is a bar that grew popups. The paid plans add targeting, A/B tests and integrations. It does not ship heat maps. It does not ship a Facebook share bar. If those were the Sumo apps you used, Hello Bar is the wrong replacement.

BDOW is List Builder with a new UI. Forms, sticky bars, welcome mats, click triggers, countdown timers, social-proof popups. Share is documented as legacy. Heat maps are not the pitch.

Sumo, historically, was the bundle. That bundle is why people still have the snippet installed.

Integrations both always had: Mailchimp, Shopify, WooCommerce, Google Analytics. BDOW adds Showit, Kit, Flodesk. Hello Bar's paid tiers split Basic / Advanced / Premium integrations; HubSpot was missing in our 2023 Hello Bar profile and we have not seen it added. Archives: Sumo integrations, Hello Bar integrations.

Which one should you pick?

Hello Bar if you want a living vendor and the job is a bar, a modal or a takeover. The free 5,000-lifetime-view plan is enough to find out. Growth at $39/mo billed yearly is the first serious rung.

BDOW if the Sumo snippet is already on a Showit site and the list is flowing. Do not migrate to Hello Bar just to stay "in popups".

Neither if you want a free plan with every feature. That is OptiMonk at $0 / 10k pageviews. Full list: Sumo alternatives. Sumo prices (historical + BDOW): Sumo pricing. Hello Bar's own ladder: Hello Bar pricing.
